Houston Astros in Dallas Stars green — a colorway crossover that shouldn't exist, and yet here we are. The crown is a deep forest green with a charcoal grey visor and a clean grey under brim. Up front sits the Astros' 2002–2012 alternate logo: the state of Texas in outline form, a bold shooting star cutting through the middle — all embroidered in metallic gold with white and black outlining that makes it pop hard against the green wool. On the left panel: the 45th Anniversary side patch, a dense shield of metallic green and gold thread reading "Houston Astros / 45th Anniversary / 1965–2010," with the franchise's classic shooting star at the base. On the back, the MLB batterman logo is rendered in matching green and gold. Grey under brim. Dark green sweatband. New Era 59Fifty flag on the right side. The full package is tighter than it has any right to be.
This hat exists in a strange and wonderful overlap: the Astros' alternate logo from their Minute Maid Park era, pulled into the exact green-and-gold palette that the Dallas Stars wore through their 1999 Stanley Cup championship run. Two Texas franchises. Same colors. One hat that somehow honors both without officially belonging to either. The 45th Anniversary patch grounds it in real Astros history — 1965 was the year the Colt .45s became the Astros, moved into the Astrodome, and became one of the most visually iconic franchises in the sport. Collectors who know their Texas sports history will clock this immediately. Everyone else just sees a clean forest green fitted with impossible metallic detail work. Either way, it wins.
How to Wear It
The Streetwear Edit
Lean into the forest green with a washed black heavyweight crewneck — Fear of God Essentials or a vintage Carhartt pullover both work. Straight-leg dark denim or olive cargo pants. For kicks, the New Balance 990v4 in grey and green sits perfectly in the same tonal family, or go contrast with a Jordan 4 "Military Black" for structure. Let the hat's metallic gold do all the talking — keep the rest of the fit quiet.
Her Way
A cropped green or black bomber jacket over a fitted white ribbed tank, with wide-leg grey trousers and white Nike Air Force 1s. The grey under brim echoes the trousers, and the gold in the logo brings warmth to an otherwise cool-toned fit. Alternatively, go full tonal: an oversized forest green hoodie dress with chunky white sneakers — the kind of fit where the hat is the only detail you need.
The Archives
This is a grail piece with provenance — treat it like one. Build around it, not on top of it. A slim black merino crewneck, clean dark indigo jeans, and black leather low-tops (Common Projects or clean Air Force 1s). No graphics, no logos, no competition. The anniversary patch and the crossover colorway are the story. Let the hat be the only thing anyone looks at. Museum lighting would agree.
