Pittsburgh Pirates in all-black corduroy — a Covid-era time capsule with real Pittsburgh history stitched into every panel. The crown and brim are fully corduroy in deep charcoal black, with thick wale ribbing you can feel running through your fingers — completely different texture and weight from the standard twill version of this hat. The front panel carries the Covid Mask Jolly Roger: the classic skull in his eye patch and red bandana, crossed bats behind him, now with a bright red face mask pulled up over his nose. It's embroidered clean and raised against a white outline. On the left side sits a gold embroidered "P" — the modern primary logo — giving the hat its only flash of color. Flip it over and the grey under visor is stitched clean. Then look at the back, where a circular commemorative patch reads Three Rivers Stadium • 1970 • 2000 • Three Golden Decades, with a gold-and-black embroidered aerial rendering of the old stadium at its center.

The Covid Mask Jolly Roger is already one of those logos that aged into something collectors chase. It started as a gag — the Pirates' Jolly Roger wearing a red face mask — and turned into a genuine document of a weird moment in baseball history. On most versions of this hat, you see it on standard wool or poly twill. This corduroy build changes the whole feel. The wale texture gives the black crown a depth that flat twill just doesn't have — it catches light differently, sits differently on the head, and reads more like a vintage piece than a standard fitted. Add the Three Rivers patch on the back and this isn't just a Pirates hat — it's a hat that spans two specific eras of Pittsburgh baseball: the Three Rivers years that ended in 2000, and the pandemic season two decades later. Two different chapters of the same franchise, both on one hat.

How to Wear It

The Streetwear Edit
The black corduroy texture makes this one easy to build around — it wants materials that have their own weight and character. Run it with a black heavyweight zip-up hoodie, a pair of slightly oversized dark cargo pants, and New Balance 990v4s in maroon or navy. The corduroy wale and the NB suede panels are speaking the same vintage material language. Let the gold "P" and the red mask be the only pops of color in the fit.

Her Way
Corduroy fitteds have a specific retro-cool energy that works incredibly well with feminine silhouettes. Try this with a fitted black turtleneck tucked into high-waisted wide-leg trousers in a warm camel or tobacco brown — the corduroy wale echoes the fabric weight of the trousers. Keep the shoes simple: a white low-top sneaker or a crepe-sole Chelsea boot. The hat becomes the statement piece it deserves to be without competing with anything else in the fit.

The Collector's Eye
This one is for the person who builds looks around objects that mean something. Raw selvedge denim in a relaxed straight cut, a faded vintage Pittsburgh-era tee (or any plain grey heavyweight), and a pair of clean white New Balance 1300s or Nike Killshot 2s. Nothing loud, nothing branded up. The hat carries the history — the fit's job is just to let it breathe. The Three Rivers patch on the back is a conversation starter for anyone who knows what they're looking at.
