Stone and kelly green with a red under brim — this 1986 All-Star colorway hits different, built around the Astros' rainbow-era palette before anybody called it retro. The crown is a clean stone grey wool, the visor is a bold kelly green with a red under brim that bleeds through every time you tilt the bill up. Up front, the classic Astros star-H logo is embroidered in kelly green with red fill — sharp and unmistakable. On the left side, the official 1986 All-Star Game side patch reads "The Astrodome / Houston, Texas / 1986" in red and gold star-burst detailing, with the vintage Astros script nested in the center. The rear MLB batterman patch remixes the standard logo in green and red, tying the whole colorway together in one tight package.
July 15, 1986. The Astrodome, Houston. Roger Clemens — a kid from nearby Katy, Texas — threw three perfect innings in front of 45,774 fans in his hometown and walked away with All-Star MVP honors. Fernando Valenzuela struck out five consecutive AL batters to tie Carl Hubbell's 52-year-old record. The American League won 3-2, ending a 13-of-14 NL streak. Four Astros suited up for the home team: Glenn Davis, Kevin Bass, Mike Scott, Dave Smith. The 57th Midsummer Classic, staged in the self-proclaimed Eighth Wonder of the World, was everything the moment deserved. This hat is a direct artifact of that night — stone grey and kelly green, Houston in full color.
How to Wear It
The Streetwear Edit
Grey heavyweight crewneck or washed olive cargo pants, stone-grey New Balance 992s or 990v3s to echo the crown, a red graphic tee underneath to pull up that under brim pop. The green visor does the work — keep everything else muted and let this hat be the statement. Straight brim, low profile, no crease.
Her Way
High-waisted dark wash jeans, a fitted white ribbed tank, and a kelly green bomber or varsity jacket — let the hat anchor the whole look. White shell-toe Adidas or clean Nike Cortez at the bottom. Minimal jewelry, small gold hoops, nothing competing with the stone-grey crown. This colorway reads clean and deliberate on any fit.
Color Theory
This is a colorway study in restraint and contrast. Stone grey as the canvas, kelly green as the statement, red as the accent that lives underneath until you look closer. The Astrodome-era Astros ran one of the most visually adventurous palettes in MLB history, and this hat distills it down to its sharpest, most wearable form. Red under brim, green bill — flip it up once and the whole thing reveals itself. If you're building a rotation around colorways that hold up under scrutiny, this is a cornerstone piece.
