Houston Astros in midnight navy, wearing 1986 like a badge of honor. The crown, brim, and top button are all deep navy — clean and confident. Up front, the classic '80s Astros "H over star" logo is rendered in metallic silver-blue and metallic gold, catching light the way only thread-embroidered metallics do. On the left panel, a circular side patch with starburst edging commemorates the Astrodome's hosting of the 1986 MLB All-Star Game — the same metallic colorway as the front logo, gold and icy sky blue stitching on a dark background. Flip the brim and you get a sky blue under visor that pops against all that navy. The back carries the MLB batterman logo in metallic sky blue and gold, tying the whole palette together.
1986 was a season Houston still talks about. Mike Scott was practically untouchable — Cy Young winner, 2.22 ERA, a no-hitter to clinch the NL West. Glenn Davis was putting up 31 homers. The Astros went 96–66, a franchise record at the time. And in July, the Astrodome hosted the All-Star Game in front of 45,774 people — Roger Clemens, native Houstonian, started in his hometown and walked away MVP. Then October came and Game 6 of the NLCS against the Mets stretched 16 innings, four hours and forty-two minutes, one of the longest and most gut-wrenching postseason games ever played at the Dome. This hat carries all of that. The All-Star patch isn't decoration — it's a timestamp for a city that was absolutely on fire that summer.
How to Wear It
The Streetwear Edit
Navy and metallic gold is a combination that holds its own against almost any sneaker in the rotation. Pull it with a pair of New Balance 1906R in navy or slate, wide-leg carpenter pants in washed black or indigo, and a heavyweight navy crewneck with minimal branding. Let the gold in the front logo pull focus. The hat does enough — keep the rest tonal and let it breathe.
Her Way
A vintage-wash denim jacket thrown over a white fitted tee, straight-leg ecru trousers, and clean white Nike Cortez. The navy hat grounds the whole look without competing. Add a small gold chain — picks up the metallic embroidery — and you've got something that reads polished and intentional without trying too hard. The sky blue under brim catches whenever the brim tilts back, which is exactly the kind of detail that makes a fit land.
The Archives
This one deserves space to breathe. Keep everything around it minimal: a clean cream or off-white heavyweight tee, dark raw selvedge denim, and black low-top Converse Chuck 70s or a simple Nike Air Max 1. No graphics, no logos competing. The '86 Astrodome patch is the story here — the silhouette of that stadium, the metallic thread, the All-Star starburst border. Wear it like you know exactly what it is and you don't need to explain it.
